Hi Chris!

Thank you so much for your kind message! You definitely are a kindred spirit. I had never thought about that before about parvovirus, but it makes complete sense! It is sad that so much of medicine is taught via rote memorization, but remember, the more you can stay true to your desire to learn mechanisms, and understand the body, the better you will do. I truly believe this.

Best of luck! I hope to hear from you again soon!

Alec

Also giving all of your posts with such click bait-esque titles is hilarious

It has those hairpin turns at the end of the strand, which act as primers for host DNA polymerase. The dependence explains why parvo can only infect cells in the S phase, which explains its penchant for affecting erythroblasts (but not erythrocytes) and causing transient aplastic anemia. Maybe its a small point, but I thought that was a pretty cool set of connections, in the vein of your “trying to think about how stuff works.”

Anyhow, you are a kindred spirit in your approach to things (being preoccupied with mechanisms and I have also earnestly said “anki changed my life”) and its heartening to see how successful you were. You have some really great material on this site, so thanks for your hard work and thoughtful problems (unfortunately there are so few problem sets in med school).

Hi Joe,

Thank you so much for your kind words! I think everyone who has studied for Step 1 wishes they had known a ton of things – I certainly felt the same way, and as such, try to pass on as much of that info through the blog and students I tutor =).

It can take several days for the starter deck e-mail to be sent out, but I just just checked, and it should have been sent. If you have any problems accessing it, please let me know.

Best of luck with your USMLE preparations, and I encourage you to leave feedback/comments on the site!

Take care,
Alec

Like so many other students, I wish I had found this site months ago! After finding it today I have already read many of your very helpful articles and I have started making pharm flashcards on Anki. It has been the death of me and I am excited to master it with Anki’s help. I signed up for your email but I can not find where to get the micro flashcards. Can you please tell me how to get them? Thank you for all of your help!

Hi Lee, thank you for your question. You can get a copy of my "Starter" micro deck by signing up to get updates by e-mail (which I would recommend doing anyway if you like the content!). I appreciate that you find this helpful. Can I ask what in particular is most helpful, so that I can know how best to improve the content to help?
